Family Devotional Guide - 11/29/20

As we enter this season of Advent/Christmas, we’ll turn our attention to Isaiah 9:1-7,

the Scripture Reading during our November 29th worship service.

Day 1

  • Scripture: Isaiah 9:1-2

  • Discussion: What does it mean that “the people who walked in darkness have seen a great light”? Who or what is that light? When did that light dawn? Consider how believers in the Old Testament understood this passage before Christ the Messiah came. How might we more fully understand this passage in light of the New Testament and a fuller knowledge of Christ the Messiah?

  • Song: “Emmanuel” by Bob McGee

Day 2

  • Scripture: Isaiah 9:3-5

  • Discussion: Much of Isaiah points forward to Jesus Christ. How does this passage about judgment against God’s enemies point forward to Christ? As 21st century believers, what hope do we have from this passage?

  • Song: “Hope Has Come” by Stephen Altrogge

Day 3

  • Scripture: Isaiah 9:6-7

  • Discussion: List the titles used for Jesus Christ. What is the significance of each title? Spend some time locating other Scripture references that show how Christ fulfilled each of those titles. Also, in light of Bro. Tom’s recent sermons, consider how Isaiah 9:7 connects to Daniel 7.

  • Song: “Jesus Messiah” by Chris Tomlin, Daniel Carson, Ed Cash & Jesse Reeves
