Family Devotional Guide - 4/16/23

This week’s family devotional guide is based on Acts 1:6-11, our Scripture reading from Sunday, April 16th.

DAY 1

Scripture Reading: Acts 1:6-7

Discussion: Jesus had just risen from the dead 40 days prior and is about to ascend into heaven. Before He leaves, He has one final conversation with the disciples. Discuss the question the disciples asked. What do you think they were expecting to happen? Explain Jesus’ response to them. Why is it important for the disciples (and us) to trust in the Lord and acknowledge that the Lord doesn’t intend for us to know all the details about God’s plan for the world and the end of the age?

Song: “Rejoice the Lord is King” by Charles Wesley & John Darwall

DAY 2

Scripture Reading: Acts 1:8-9

Discussion: Describe the power Jesus mentions in verse 8. How does the Holy Spirit grant us power? Why does the Holy Spirit give us power? Describe the assignment that Jesus gives His followers (v. 8). How might the disciples have felt watching Jesus ascend to heaven? Why did they have no reason to fear or worry?

Song: “Whom Shall I Fear (God of Angel Armies)” by Chris Tomlin, Ed Cash & Scott Cash

DAY 3

Scripture Reading: Acts 1:10-11

Discussion: The disciples were evidently so focused on Jesus’ ascension that a couple of angels, presumably, had to come down and calm their fears and prompt them to go on about their lives. Why do you think the disciples kept staring into heaven? Why was it important to consider the reality of the Second Coming (v. 11)? What applications can we make for our own lives from verses 10-11?

Song: “The Lion and the Lamb” by Brenton Brown, Brian Johnson & Leeland Mooring
