Family Devotional Guide - 7/5/20

DAY 1

  • SCRIPTURE: Psalm 32:1-2

  • DISCUSSION: Psalm 32 is closely connected to Psalm 51 in that both are penitential psalms about confession of sin (and the blessedness of forgiveness). What does it mean, in v. 1, to have sin covered? What does it mean that God “counts no iniquity” against those who are forgiven? Spend some time thanking the Lord for His amazing love expressed in forgiving those who seek His forgiveness and repent of their sins.

  • SONG: “You Are My King (Amazing Love)” by Billy J. Foote

DAY 2

  • SCRIPTURE: Psalm 32:3-5

  • DISCUSSION: Why did the psalmist (David) groan (v. 3)? What does this tell us about the connection between spirit, soul & body? Can sin affect us physically? Why or why not?

  • SONG: “It Is Well with My Soul” by Horatio G. Spafford & Philip P. Bliss

DAY 3

  • SCRIPTURE: Psalm 32:6-11

  • DISCUSSION: In v. 8, David shifts gears and begins to address those reading the psalm. He committed to teach others based on the repentance he exemplified and the lessons he learned. As we fight sin, God’s design is that we help others fight sin in their lives and grow in holiness. Is there anything you can do to help others walk in holiness that you are not currently doing? How might you encourage others to live according to God’s Word and seek His forgiveness?

  • SONG: “Glorious Day (Living He Loved Me)” by John W. Chapman, Mark Hall & Michael Bleecker
