INTRO

  • Previous verses…vv. 1-15. The truths and his reminding them of those truths.

  • Chapter 1 Our maturity in Christ. Chapter 2. The dangers of false teaching.

  • 2 Peter 1:3–4; 2 Peter 1:10

  • Peter was hopeful, but also concerned. He wanted the church to have a solid foundation as they navigated life. He knew their were false teachers in their midst. He knew Christ was coming again.

A Particular Calling – v. 16a

Follow

  • Jesus called and he answered. He (and others) left everything to follow Christ

  • JESUS CALLS US OUT! FROM TO.

  • A story meant to deceive. Untrue

  • WE DO NOT. We believe the GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST.

Made known

  • Preaching Teaching. Sharing. The authority behind the message.

  • His apostolic calling and ministry

Power and Coming

  • It is not just a person, but ALL THAT THAT JESUS REPRESENTS.

  • His first coming points to His second. False teaching denies the 1st and 2nd coming of Christ. WHO HE WAS

A Personal Encounter – vv. 16b-18

Eyewitness of His majesty

We were with Him

  • The heard the voice. They were with Him.

  • WE TOO are with Him. Our relationship with Christ. We have met JESUS! Not an experience, but rather the change brought on by the Gospel.

  • We KNOW what has happened to us.

  • 1 John 1:1–4; Acts 4:20; Romans 8:16

A Prophetic Word – vv. 19-21

  • The transfiguration confirms the Word.

  • OT for them plus NT for church today.

Pay attention

  • Continuous readiness.

Lamp shining… Until the day dawns

No prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation

  • Interpreting to support one’s own agenda or view.

  • Study the Word. HERMENEUTICS on Wed nights.

Men spoke from God

  • God has given us and preserved His Word. Power of the Holy Spirit.
