Ending with the End in Mind (2 Peter 3:11-18) - 8/3/25

I. Since it’s temporary, we wait. (vv. 11-13)

A. Wait in holiness. (v. 11) (Live for the kingdom.)

            1. Everything earthly is transitory. (v. 11a)

2. Everything heavenly is eternal. (v. 11b)

B. Wait in hope. (vv. 12-13) (Long for the King.)

1. He will ruin sin’s dominion. (v. 12)

            2. He will reinstitute His kingdom. (v. 13a)

       3. He will renew His creation. (v. 13a)

            4. He will radiate His righteousness. (v. 13b)


II.   While we’re waiting, we grow. (vv. 14-16)

       A. Grow in security. (vv. 14-15a)

       1. We are found by the Lord. (v. 14a)

            2. We are holy for the Lord. (v. 14b)

3. We are righteous in the Lord. (v. 14b)

            4. We are reconciled with the Lord. (v. 14c, 15a)

      B. Grow in understanding. (vv. 15b-16)

            1. It’s not new. (v. 15b, 16a)

            2. It’s not easy. (v. 16b)

3. It’s not guarded. (v. 16c)


III.  As we’re growing, we settle. (vv. 17-18)

       A. Settle in truth. (v. 17)

            1. Be prepared for heresy. (v. 17a)

            2. Be stubborn about truth. (v. 17b)

            3. Be steady in obedience. (v. 17b)

       B. Settle in stability. (v. 18)

            1. As we’re settled, we grow. (v. 18a)

            2. As we’re settled, we praise. (v. 18b)
