Family Devotional Guide - 1/22/23
During this week’s Family Devotional Guide, we will focus on the Scripture reading from Sunday, Psalm 98. In the English Standard Version, this psalm divides neatly into three sections.
Scripture: Psalm 98:1-3
Discussion: What is the connection between singing a “new song” and God doing “marvelous things”? How has the Lord shown His salvation & righteousness clearly to all? Why is it important that “the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.”
Song: “Our God” by Chris Tomlin, Jesse Reeves, Jonas Myrin & Matt Redman
Scripture: Psalm 98:4-6
Discussion: Discuss the connection between joyful exuberance and holy reverence. What does it mean to make a “joyful noise” and break into “joyous song”? Spend some time considering whether you are worshiping in a way that expresses the joy of the Lord.
Song: “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee” by Edward Hodges, Henry Van Dyke & Ludwig van Beethoven
Scripture: Psalm 98:7-9
Discussion: How does nature itself join us in worship? Why is it important that the psalmist calls on all creation to worship? What does this tell us of the worthiness of God? Why do you think the psalmist ends this psalm of worship with a reminder of God’s coming judgment?
Song: “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” by Thomas O. Chisholm & William M. Runyan
