This week’s Family Devotional Guide is based on our Scripture reading from Sunday, Psalm 36.
Day 1
Scripture: Psalm 36:1-4
Discussion: Before David turns his attention to the steadfast love of the Lord, he describes the evildoer. Spend some time walking through these descriptions of the evildoer and discuss the significance of each of these sinful thoughts and actions. Why does David begin his psalm in this way? How do these opening verses connect with the “steadfast love” of the Lord mentioned several times in the following verses.

Scripture: Psalm 36:5-9
Discussion: Discuss the following terms/phrases from verses 5-6: steadfast love, faithfulness, righteousness. How does God exemplify each of those qualities? Who is the object of God’s love in verse 7? How does God demonstrate that love in verses 8-9?

Day 3
Scripture: Psalm 36:10-12
Discussion: After praising God for His steadfast love, David then petitions the Lord, asking him to “continue your steadfast love to those who know you, and your righteousness to the upright of heart!” How does David’s petition to the Lord give inform us about David’s view of mankind (and himself). Why does David end the psalm by asking the Lord to keep evildoers from him (v. 11) and by reminding himself that evildoers will ultimately fall to their own destruction (v. 12)?
