Family Devotional Guide - 6/5/22

For our Family Devotional Guide this week, we’ll be looking at passages taken from, or connected to, 1 Corinthians 10.

Day 1

  • Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:1-5

  • Discussion: The apostle Paul directly attributed the blessings the Hebrews experienced in verses 1-4 to God Himself (and specifically to the Lord Jesus Christ in connection to the water provided to them). Why is it important to understand that these blessings came from the Lord? What is the significance of verse 5, and how does it connect to the blessings they experienced?

  • Song: “Blessings” by Laura Story

Day 2

  • Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:4b; Exodus 17:1-7

  • Discussion: In this passage in Exodus (the background for Paul’s remarks in 1 Corinthians 10:4b), we find the nation of Israel complaining against Moses, their leader, so strongly that he feared his life was at stake. Why do you think they were blaming Moses for their misfortune? How did this display their lack of trust in the Lord? What do we learn about God’s gracious nature from the fact that He still provided for them?

  • Song: “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” by Thomas O. Chisholm & William M. Runyan

Day 3

  • Scripture: 1 Corinthians 10:5-6

  • Discussion: At the end of verse 5, Paul reminds us that this particular generation of Hebrews was “overthrown in the wilderness.” What should we learn from this act of judgment? He then reminds us that the things in the Old Testament “took place as examples for us.” What does this tell us of the importance of the Old Testament? How have you seen the Old Testament wrongly disregarded by modern Christians?

  • Song: “The Lion and the Lamb” by Brenton Brown, Brian Johnson & Leeland Mooring
