Family Devotional Guide - 7/12/20

DAY 1

  • SCRIPTURE: Daniel 1:17-21; 1 Peter 4:11

  • DISCUSSION: At the end of the opening chapter in Daniel, we find that the 4 Hebrew young men experienced the grace and blessing of God as He granted them knowledge, skill and wisdom. They were utterly dependent on God for these things, and their situation would have ended badly were it not for God’s blessing! Have you experienced a time in your life where you knew things would have turned out quite differently were it not for the Lord’s intervention? Spend some time thanking the Lord for His blessings.

DAY 2

  • SCRIPTURE: 1 Peter 4:11

  • DISCUSSION: The Hebrew young men were dependent on the Lord as they served the king. As we live out the Christian life and use our spiritual gifts, we are also dependent on the Lord. In light of that fact, how are you seeking to grow in the use of your spiritual gifts and making sure you are relying on the strength that God supplies?

  • SONG: “Grace Alone” by Scott Wesley Brown & Jeff Nelson

DAY 3

  • SCRIPTURE: Daniel 1:21; Daniel 2

  • DISCUSSION: At the conclusion of this opening chapter in the book of Daniel, mention is made of King Cyrus who began his reign years after the end of King Nebuchadnezzar’s rule. In chapter 2, we see that God judges the nations and sets them up and brings them down. As we think of transition of power (especially appropriate during this 2020 election season), how can we strengthen our hope in the Lord? What promises from His Word would be helpful to remind us of God’s ultimate control over human events?

  • SONG: “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name” by Edward Perronet, John Rippon & Oliver Holden
