Family Devotional Guide - 8/2/20

DAY 1

  • SCRIPTURE: Matthew 11:28; Acts 17:30

  • DISCUSSION: When Jesus tells us to come to Him, the implication is that we must change direction and turn to Him. This is a clear picture of repentance. In Acts 17:30, the apostle Paul stated that God “now commands all people everywhere to repent.” What does this tell us of how we issue the gospel call? How is a command different from a mere invitation or suggestion?

  • SONG: “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing” by John Wyeth & Robert Robinson

DAY 2

  • SCRIPTURE: Matthew 11:29; Romans 12:11

  • DISCUSSION: When we are yoked to Jesus, we are united with Him, and this implies lordship. We submit to Christ’s yoke in service to Him. What is the implication of being called to bear Christ’s yoke? Consider that yokes were commonly placed on beasts of burden such as oxes or donkeys to use them for hard labor or transportation.

  • SONG: “Step by Step” by David (Beaker) Strasser

DAY 3

  • SCRIPTURE: Matthew 11:29; Isaiah 40:29-31

  • DISCUSSION: Jesus tells us to learn from Him, and this implies discipleship. How does discipleship ultimately lead to “rest for your souls”?

  • SONG: “Everlasting God” Brenton Brown & Ken Riley
