I. Fear’s Fruit – Compromise (vv. 1-7)

A. Israel was vulnerable. (vv. 3-4)

B. Saul was fearful. (vv. 5-6)

C. Compromise was the response. (v. 7)


II. Fear’s Companion – Sin (vv. 8-14)

A. Saul’s sin was flagrant. (v. 8)

B. Saul’s sin was not solitary. (v. 9)

C. Saul’s sin was enabling. (v. 10)   

D. Saul’s sin was revealing. (vv. 11-12)

E. Saul’s sin was hypocritical. (vv. 13-14)


III. Fear’s Reality – Judgment (vv. 15-19)

A. Saul’s fears were real. (v. 15)

B. Samuel’s presence was real. (vv. 15-16)

C. God’s justice was sure. (vv. 17-18)

D. God’s judgment was inevitable. (vv. 19-20)


IV. Fear’s Neglect – Unrepentance (vv. 20-25)

A. Saul was fearful of the outcome.

B. The medium attempted to comfort.

      C. Saul ate a meal of impending doom.
