Intro

• It has been ninth months since the announcement

• John the Baptist is born

• The forerunner has arrived
  

The Birth of John the Baptist – vv. 57-66

The time had come – v. 57

• God’s purpose/plan/providence

The Lord has shown mercy – v 58

• The physical/temporal – Elizabeth finally has a child

• The Spiritual/eternal – Christ’s forerunner is born

GREAT MERCY UPON HIS PEOPLE

His name IS John – v. 63

• Zechariah has not spoken for 9 months

• He could not wait to utter these words
  

The Praise of Zechariah – vv. 67-80

Praising God for the coming of THE SON – vv. 67-75

Filled with the Holy Spirit – v. 67

• Filled in the womb – Luke 1:15

• Elizabeth filled – Luke 1:41-43

The Blessings of the coming Salvation

Comes from God – v. 68

• Visitation

Redeems His people – vv. 68-69, 71- 72, 74a

• Redeemed

• Raised up a horn of salvation

• Saved from our enemies

• Show mercy

• Remember the Holy Covenant

• Delivered from our enemies

Fulfills His promise

• Spoke by the holy prophets

Brings forth everlasting worship and communion – v.74

• No fear

• Holiness and righteousness

• MORE THAN JUST GOING TO HEAVEN. REAL PURPOSE IN LIFE IS LIVING EVERY MOMENT FOR GOD’S GLORY.
  

Praising God for the coming of his son – vv. 76-80

HE IS POINTING THE WAY

Jesus is coming – vv. 76

• Most High

• First, but not the most significant

• Prepare His way

• Not in the LAW BUT IN GRACE

Sin is the issue – v. 77

• Forgiveness of sin

• The issue then and now

God’s mercy is the solution – v. 78

• Tender mercy of our God

• Sit in darkness

• Guide is in the light

• Way of peace
