Pastor's Blog: Weathering the Storm of COVID-19

Some of you remember the polio situation in the 50’s. My Aunt had it as a child. It was very contagious and yet there was no shut down of the economy. What happened was that people prayed. There were all night prayer vigils, I’m told, for my Aunt. She was in an “iron lung” for a period of time and yet survived. She had health problems over the years from her illness, but she became a great prayer warrior for the Lord. She is in Heaven now, but her life is proof that we can weather the storms that come our way.

We will weather the current COVID-19 pandemic. The reality is that some will be pandemic statistics. The death statistics are rising and until cures and vaccines are developed and made available, the danger will continue. But our nation’s health system is the finest in the world and we can know that every effort is being made to slow the spread. And we can do our part. While I am not a fan of being “quarantined,” I am in agreement that at least for a time it is the best policy.

In light of that we have determined that we will remain closed for activities at the church through April 6, at the request of Governor Kemp. This is disappointing in that we were so looking forward to having Dr. Jerry Vines with us on April 5. We will attempt to reschedule that. Going forward from April 6 will be based on how things progress.

What we will do is have a recorded “live stream” of Sunday morning worship. I will continue to produce a Sunday School lesson for adults and Melba will have one for the children. Also, I will go live on the church’s Facebook page at 7 pm on Wednesday nights for prayer meeting and an update on the situation and church plans moving forward. Melba will have a Wednesday Children’s program as well.

Here is the schedule:

Please “LIKE” our Facebook pages and then share these recordings with others. It’s a great way to get the word out about TBC.

Please remember that the church’s financial needs continue. Also, March is “Prove the Tithe Month!” You can mail your check to the church or give on line at: https://app.easytithe.com/App/Giving/tabe6611136

I am praying that our exciting plans for celebrating the Resurrection of our Lord will come to pass. I am grateful for President Trump’s goal of getting most of the country back on track by Easter. Let’s all pray that it will be so.

As always, I am looking forward to what God will do at Tabernacle this coming Sunday. Please be present with your Bibles in hand as we worship the Lord together – from our living rooms, dens, and other locations! Pray!

Blessings, YFJS, Bro. Tom
