-What is required for one to live a “blessed” life? How do we become “planted by the rivers of water,” safe and secure in our walk of faith?
-It takes three things ... separation, preparation, and expectation.
I. THE SAINT is...
1. SEPARATED FROM THE WORLD (v. 1) -
There are three things that demonstrate one’s separation from the world and to God. The Saint... a. REJECTS WORLDLY COUNSEL - does not LISTEN to world's advice. b. REFUSES WICKED CONDUCT - does not LINGER with the world. c. REMOVES HIMSELF FROM WILLFUL CONDEMNERS -
does not LIVE with or in the world. 2. SATISFIED WITH THE WORD (v. 2) -
There are two things required in preparation to be planted ... a. DELIGHT IN THE WORD
b. DEVOTION TO THE WORD
And therefore is... 3. SECURED FROM WORRY (v. 3) -
If we separate from the world and are satisfied with the Word,
we can expect security from worry. a. Planted like a Tree b. Brings forth Spiritual Fruit c. Its leaf does not whither - serving by spiritual gifts
II. THE SINNER - in contrast is:
1. DRIVEN TO WORLDLINESS (V. 4)
2. DOOMED BY THE WORD (v. 5)
3. DAMNED BY HIS WAYS (v. 6)
