The Power of Gospel Grace (Mark 7:24-37) - 8/5/26

Introduction

  • Jesus confronts the Pharisees over external religion (7:1–23).

  • He exposes the real problem… the sinful heart.

  • Jesus now enters Gentile territory.

  • Two miracles reveal the power of gospel grace.

  • Jesus welcomes the outsider, restores the broken, and leads people to worship.

Humble Faith – vv. 24–30

Jesus responds to a Gentile woman whose faith rests completely in His mercy.

Jesus Enters Tyre (v. 24)

  • Jesus enters Gentile territory.

  • He seeks privacy.

  • His presence cannot remain hidden.

A Gentile Woman Seeks Jesus (vv. 25–26)

  • She comes to Jesus.

  • She falls at His feet.

  • She pleads for her daughter.

Jesus Responds to Her Faith (vv. 27–30)

  • Jesus tests her faith.

  • She responds with humility.

  • Jesus delivers her daughter.

Jesus welcomes all who come to Him in humble faith. His grace is greater than every barrier.

Divine Power – vv. 31–36

Jesus restores a man who cannot hear or speak, revealing His authority over the brokenness of sin.

A Man Is Brought to Jesus (vv. 31–32)

  • A deaf man is brought to Jesus.

  • The people ask Jesus to touch him.

Jesus Heals the Man (vv. 33–35)

  • Jesus takes him aside.

  • He touches him.

  • He says, “Ephphatha.”

  • The man is immediately healed.

Jesus Commands Silence (v. 36)

  • Jesus commands silence.

  • The people continue proclaiming Him.

Jesus alone can restore what sin has broken.

Astonished Worship – v. 37

The crowd responds with amazement and declares the greatness of Jesus.

The Crowd Responds

  • They are amazed.

  • They proclaim His works.

  • They confess, “He has done all things well.”

The Miracle Reveals the Messiah

  • Jesus fulfills God’s promises.

  • Jesus reveals God’s glory.

  • Jesus restores what sin has broken.

Jesus’ grace leads us to worship Him and faithfully make Him know

The What Now?

  • Come to Jesus with humble faith.

  • Trust His grace to restore what sin has broken.

  • Worship Christ as the promised Messiah.

  • Share the hope of the gospel this week.
