Corporate. No such thing as an online church
Online can strengthen, but it cannot be THE CHURCH
1 Thess. 5:11 – Each believer. “Build one another up”
Eph. 4:11 – Church leadership. “He gave…for building up”

Not a specific list of what is done during the gathering.
Would appear that it is a list of how they had gotten off track
Notice… all speaking/verbal
Can you imagine the impact… confusion/chaotic
THE MISUSE OF TONGUES – vv. 27-28

THE MISUSE OF GENDER ROLES – vv. 34-35
Both men and female were at fault
NT context women had very few rights (much like today in the Middle East)
In the church they found a voice and purpose
Here… they were being a little overzealous. Men and Women were both creating chaos and confusion
In this context… Speaking during the gathering
Imagine the confusion… prophecy, women questioning the prophecy
Imagine today if women (anyone) started questioning the preaching during the message
Men and Women are both gifted and crucial for the ministry of the church
God has called and gifted us for specific roles

In the church
The role and responsibilities of men and women
THE IMPORTANCE OF EDIFICATION AND ORDER – vv. 36-40
Paul sarcastically addresses the potential of their resistance.
He reminds them of divine authority
Word came – v. 36
Command of the Lord – v. 37
Today… we must keep the Word the main thing.
Remember, then tongues and prophecy were the means of communicating God’s truth to his people.
We now have the Bible
The importance of the authority of the spoken word
Preaching and teaching
We should desire to “be under” the preaching and teaching of the Word
Fellowship is great, Groups are great… but the WORD is foundational for growing as a person and as a church.
Concluding Encouragement
Utilize your gifts… BUT ONLY IF IT IS BENEFICIAL TO BUILD UP THE CHURCH – v. 40
