Conduct Worthy of the Gospel (Philippians 1:27-30) - 1/19/20

Sermon Notes

A Solid Church - Founded on Christ

Philippians 1 gives us the foundational basis for the work of the church. Paul founded a church fully committed to the defense and confirmation of the gospel (v. 7).

First, the church was committed to the Lord’s people (1:3-11).

-The fellowship of the gospel

Second, they were concerned for lost people (1:12-26).

-The furtherance of the gospel

Third, they were compelled to be a learning people (1:27-30).

-The faith of the gospel (cf. Jude 3)

What you believe determines how you behave!

Our text gives us three areas of consideration:

I. STAND FAST IN ONE SPIRIT FOR THE INFLUENCE OF THE GOSPEL. (v. 27a)

1. Commendable Conduct (cf. Eph. 4:1-3)

2. Consistent Conduct

3. Confirmed Conduct

While belief determines behavior it is also true that behavior demonstrates belief.

II. STRIVE TOGETHER FOR THE FAITH OF THE GOSPEL. (v. 27b-28)

We must Never Sacrifice Truth on the Altar of Unity!

III. SUFFER FOR THE SAKE OF THE GOSPEL. (vv. 28-30)
