Family Devotional Guide - 4/7/24

This week’s Family Devotional Guide is based on our Scripture reading from Sunday, Matthew 13:31-35.

DAY 1

  • Scripture: Matthew 13:31-32

  • Discussion: Why do you think Jesus chose a mustard seed in this parable? What does comparing the kingdom and the spread of the gospel tell us about God’s kingdom and its spread? Discuss the qualities of the mustard tree. What might be signified about the gospel’s impact when we consider that even birds were blessed by the spread of the mustard tree’s branches?

  • Song: “Build Your Kingdom Here” by Gareth Gilkeson, Chris Llewellyn and William Herron

DAY 2

  • Scripture: Matthew 13:33

  • Discussion: Jesus now compares the kingdom and the spread of the gospel to leaven and its spread in a batch of flour. How big are the particles of a leavening agent? Why did Jesus once again use something small and insignificant to compare with the gospel of the kingdom and its spread? What does this tell us about the power of the gospel? Spend some time praying for the gospel to go forth. Pray for lost friends and family that you know and for the Lord to give you the opportunity and courage to share the gospel with them soon.

  • Song: “Facing a Task Unfinished” by Frank Houghton, Keith Getty, Kristyn Getty, Ed Cash, Fionán De Barra and Samuel Wesley

DAY 3

  • Scripture: Matthew 13:34-35

  • Discussion: Verse 34 tells us that, during this discourse, Jesus chose to speak only in parables. What are parables? Why did Jesus choose to use parables, according to verse 35? Read Psalm 78:2. Discuss the context of that verse and how Jesus fulfilled it.

  • Song: “Show Us Christ” by Bob Kauflin & Doug Plank
