Family Devotional Guide - 5/19/24

Our current Family Devotional Guide series is an exploration of the 119th psalm.  This lengthy psalm is an acrostic psalm broken up into 22 stanzas, and we are covering one stanza each week. We pray this psalm, which focuses on the Word of God itself, will strengthen you in your walk with the Lord!

Day 1

  • Scripture: Psalm 119:17-18

  • Discussion: What does the psalmist mean when he asks the Lord to “deal bountifully” with him? What might cause the Lord to be willing to deal bountifully with His servant? What is the end result of that request? In other words, what does the psalmist desire to do in the 2nd half of verse 17? What does the psalmist pray in verse 18, and how might the Lord answer that request practically in our lives?

  • Song: “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” by Robert Robinson & John Wyeth

Day 2

  • Scripture: Psalm 119:19-20

  • Discussion: Why do you think the psalmist describes himself as a sojourner? What does this tell us of the psalmist’s view of himself? What consumes the psalmist in verse 20? What does this tell us of the psalmist’s love for God’s law and desire to follow His commands? Spend some time in prayer and ask the Lord to increase your love for His commands.

  • Song: “Glorious Day (Living He Loved Me)” by John W. Chapman, Mark Hall& Michael Bleecker

Day 3

  • Scripture: Psalm 119:21-24

  • Discussion: Who does the Lord rebuke in verse 21? What makes them insolent and accursed? What does the psalmist pray in verse 22? Why might the psalmist pray for “scorn and contempt” to be removed? Why does the psalmist mention “princes sit plotting against me” and what is the significance of the psalmist being dedicated to God’s word while facing persecution? What does is mean to delight in the Lord’s “testimonies” and how can we make sure that “they are my counselors”?

  • Song: “Great I AM” by Jared Anderson
